Review: Earth 2 #2

Right off the bat I’ll say I Earth 2 #2 is better than issue #1. We are getting to know our main characters. The book jumps from character to character as they wil inevitably make there way to a team.

James Robinson and Nicola Scott do a great job introducing Mister Terrific from his pervious book with a nice twist. The Jay Garrick/Mercury situation ends how most people would expect from the first issue. The pages with Alan Scott have already been released in previews and they are a good read but blown way out of proportion by the news.

Robinson’s writing reads more naturally in this issue than last. The art is yet again gorgeous. I do have to say I am not a fan of Jay Garrick’s uniform. It’s just all over the place. There is too much going on by his rib cage. I do like the lightning bolt running down his leg. The boots are cool. I wish the helmet was either the old helmet or the new fancy torpedo looking helmet cyclists wear. Overall the costume just needs to be streamlined.

I’d give it a 4 out of 5 stars.

Now on to the SPOILERY stuff…

From James Robinson’s interview with CBR:

And there’s a little Easter Egg in #2 I’ll mention now that shows Ted Grant. He’s going to be a huge part of the second arc, and obviously at that point he’ll become Wildcat. When you see him, he’s going to have a lot of the traits that made him that character back in the ’40s, but he’ll be very unique and different from anybody on the main earth.
