September’s “Futures End” Covers & Creative Teams

DC has released the full creative lineups for its September 2014 “Futures End” tie-in issues, and a look at the first two weeks of lenticular covers. I pulled out the Earth 2 and JSA related titles. Where the they had two separate jpegs instead of a gif with multiple images I created gif. Which is pretty much everyone except for Earth 2: Futures End #1.

After a desperate five-year quest, John Constantine has claimed the ultimate occult prize: the Helmet of Fate!

Newsarama recently interviewed Tim Seeley and Tom King about the upcoming series Grayson. Grayson will follow the adventures of Dick Grayson as a spy. Joining Dick Grayson will be Helena Bertinelli the post-Crisis and pre-Flashpoint Huntress. Here is what they had to say about Helena.

Nrama: Is there any way you can tell us the name of this female character?

Seeley: Helena Bertinelli.

Nrama: Oh!

Seeley: Oh! Yeah!

Nrama: But it’s not Huntress. This is a different, New 52 take on the character.

King: This is the New 52 appearance of the new Helena Bertinelli.

Seeley: Yeah, it’s not Helena Wayne, the Huntress. It’s Helena Bertinelli.

Nrama: That’s kind of cool, because Dick and Helena did have a relationship in the old universe. When you say she’s a “partner,” she also works for Spyral?

King: Yeah. She’s an amazing spy. She’s definitely better than Dick; he has to learn from her.

That’s very interesting. I wonder if this plays into the character mentioned in Worlds’ Finest #1. Hints of Helena Bertinelli’s ties to the Chicago mob have been dropped in Justice League #25.

It seems like Helena Wayne won’t be leaving the role of Huntress anytime soon. So that is good. But with Helena Bertinelli appearing on Arrow, things not looking too hot for her in Earth 2: World’s End, and the rumor Paul Levitz walking off that book, makes me uneasy for her fate in the upcoming months.

Greg Pak was interviewed on Word Balloon about his work at DC. He had some interesting things to say about the relationship between Huntress and the main Earth’s Superman in Batman/Superman.

Somebody on Tumblr was asking me about the way we wrote Superman and Huntress in the crossover and I think in an interview early on we had  intimated that there may be some romantic thing going on. In the actual writing of it the thing we didn’t do that because it just didn’t make sense in the story but when i started to actually work with the characters that’s not the way it worked. And I love that it didn’t work that way because there are millions of ways that men and women can interact with each other. There are millions of different shades of friendship and rivalry and comradery and partnership that you can do and not all of them involve people falling into their arms at the end of it. You know what I mean?

It was a great interview. They talk a lot about Batman/Superman and the upcoming “Doom” storyline.

Power Girl and Huntress return to the ruins of Earth 2, but they question whether their trip was worth the effort as they discover the state of their former home and friends.

Bleeding Cool covered DC’s All Access panel at WonderCon. Here is what they had to say about Earth 2 books:

Also coming up, we have Earth 2: World’s End, and Mike Cotton said that a lot of stuff happening in other books leading up to this will “come to a head” with Daniel H. Wilson writing, and Paul Levitz will be involved. It’s really “about the end of the world” and asking “How do you handle your world falling apart and fighting gods?” “It’s dark and mean and I don’t like happy endings” said Cotton.

If I had to bet, I would say at least Worlds’ Finest gets the axe before Earth 2: World’s End starts.

Nerdist has revealed that DC’s third weekly series premiering in October 2014 will be entitled, Earth 2: World’s End. The series will be written byTom Taylor, Paul Levitz, Daniel H. Wilson, Marguerite Bennet, and Mike Johnson. The art on the series will be provided by Eddy Barrows, Jorge Jimenez, Stephen Segovia, Paulo Siqeira, and Tyler Kirkham.
The above image by Ben Oliver shows that things aren’t going too well for Val, Power Girl, Batman, Huntress, Doctor Fate, and Green Lantern. For that matter Apokolips crushing the planet doesn’t bode well either.
Update: I just noticed that Batman is holding Huntress the same way Batman is holding Robin on the collected Batman: A Death in the Family (Jason Todd’s Death).
Do you think this will be in addition or in place of Earth 2 and Worlds’ Finest?
What do you think of this series?
